Answers to Your Questions (Frequently Asked)

Q. What kind of waltzes does the Club dance?

A. We dance 12 figured waltzes at each monthly ball. The Broadmoor Waltz Club was formed as a Viennese Waltz Club with a string orchestra playing Strauss, but the waltzes of the Club have evolved over the years and are now technically “American Glide” style rather than Viennese. Between the waltzes, our live musicians play music for other ballroom dances, such as the tango, foxtrot, two-step, free waltz, etc., providing the opportunity for dancers to indulge their passion for other dance forms while still primarily focusing on the beautiful figured waltzes.

Q. What is a figured waltz?

A. Each waltz has specific, patterned choreography. All dancers perform the same dance moves together as they circle the ballroom in unison.

Q. Are the figured waltzes "cued" at the balls?

A. No. Dancers practice and memorize the figured waltzes.

Q. How can I learn the figures?

A. The Broadmoor Waltz Club conducts free lessons beginning in August and continuing through the season. See our CLASSES page for more information.

Q. Do men need to wear tuxedos to dance with The Broadmoor Waltz Club?

A. Yes. The dress code is formal “black tie.” Informal, business or even just "dressy" attire is not permitted. See our DRESS CODE page for more information.

Q. Do ladies need to wear ball gowns?

A. Yes. Ladies wear formal, full-length gowns. See our DRESS CODE page for more information.

Q. Why do you have a dress code?

A. The Broadmoor Waltz Club is dedicated to preserving the elegance and history of traditional grand balls. That elegance and history cannot be preserved or properly experienced without dressing the part. Read ABOUT our Club's past and present for a more complete perspective on this.

Q. How often do you have balls?

A. There are six balls each season beginning in October. See the BALLS page for specific dates and more information.

Q. Where are the balls held?

A. We dance in the Grand Ballroom of the five-star Broadmoor Hotel and Resort in Colorado Springs.

Q. How can we become members?

A. A couple can apply for membership by contacting a current member and requesting to be sponsored as a new member. We recommend couples attend WALTZ CLASSES before or at the time of applying for membership.

Q. How much does membership cost?

A. For the 2023-2024 season, dues are $250 per couple, to include six monthly balls. A half-season membership costs $125. Dinner at the Christmas Ball is an additional cost. (Dues may change at the beginning of each season.)

Q. Are singles allowed?

A. No. Memberships are for couples only.

Q. Can anyone join?

A. The Broadmoor Waltz Club does not discriminate on the basis of race or ethnicity. We do have a set limit to the number of memberships available per season. The Club reserves the right to refuse membership to anyone who does not comply with the standards of dress and behavior defined in the BYLAWS.
